T.R. Reid's The United States of Europe begins with the assertion that the rise in European power is due to the fact that the United States was unaware of this uprise and has no doubt caused an end to the American supremacy. Reid does not make light of this situation however, you will find a fair amount of irony in this book. The first chunk of this text gives only the first of numerous reasons for the position in which America finds herself; amazingly you learn through Reids arduous, informative tone that this was all under one president and occurred within the last eight years. As of 2005, the united Europe has shown itself to be strongest in many areas including politics and economics. But wait, the US does have them beat in military power. However, as Reid explains, this is the last thing Europe is focused on. Reid goes on to explain that Europe has gotten to where they stand by learning from previous wars and conflicts as well as mistakes and achievements of other nations. (maybe we could learn a thing or two) .
Question: Considering the fact that this decline in power for the United States is still occuring, will/can new leadership change the course we are headed in?
